Keira Knightley on the Ellen DeGeneres Show
I just do not get why some people don’t like Keira Knightley. I fully admit I have irrational dislikes of certain famous actresses as well, but…just look at her face in the sixth gif from the top. Just look at it.
19th century Qing- Manchu “flower boat” shoes—Manchu’s were forbidden to bind their girl’s feet by imperial edict. To recreate the swaying motion of ladies with bound feet, they created flower boat shoes. Which are still being used in Chinese opera.
This is so incredibly cool. Something about the fact that foot-binding was forbidden, because progress or whatever, but the aesthetic principles that made foot-binding a thing in the first place still remained, and informed new modes of fashion! That is amazing to me. And also, I love these shoes, and would totally want to try wearing them. Even though goddamn it they look hard to walk in.
